Soul Driver tackles graded stakes competition for the first time on Sunday, November 30th, in the Grade 3 Cecil B. De Mille Stakes at Del Mar. Formerly ran as the Grade 3 Generous Stakes at Hollywood Park, the 1 mile turf race for two year olds has taken on a name reflective of the “Old Hollywood” style of the new Bing Crosby meet. Bing Crosby, co-founder of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, frequented the seaside track with many of his Hollywood pals. Among them was Cecil DeMille, the famed filmmaker and grandfather of Del Mar President and CEO, Joe Harper.
Soul Driver, our impressive son of Street Boss, has continued to train forwardly for conditioner Jeff Mullins since his maiden score at Santa Anita last month. Soul worked an easy 5 furlongs on Monday the 24th to complete his preparation for his stakes debut. Graded stakes races are the highest caliber of races in North America and ensure a great field of horses. The inaugural running of the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille is no different, headlined by the 3rd place finisher in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. This will be undoubtedly be Soul’s toughest competition to date, however he is giving us every indication that he is up to the challenge. Soul Driver will break from post 2 in the field of 10 with regular rider Tyler Baze aboard. Entries can be viewed below.
For those interested in viewing Sunday’s race, post time is 3:00pm (pacific) and the race will be shown live on TVG, HRTV, and at www.calracing.com
